Post #918. First Snow. First License. December 27.

~ It wasn't on Christmas,
but it's still Christmas Week.

~ a reminder that the Twelve Days
of Christmas
really
only begin on Christmas Day

~ It was short-lived,
all but a dusting remains,
the rest melted in the
warmth of the midday

...   but it was SNOW.   Finally. Our first real snow of the season, meager as it was.

In this case, the "early bird gets the snow pictures". I woke around 3:00 a.m. to see it falling, but went back to sleep.

Jim woke me this morning with news that it was melting quick and he knew I'd want to take photos.

So, for the first time of the season, I pulled on my favorite snow boots and ventured out, Nikon D90, two lenses in tow.

In all that I do, I aim to capture life as art, because that's what life is. Art.

Artful expression, intricities of beauty in nature's detail, God's great palette.

There is also an art to letting go.

Today - Sarah received her Driver's License.

The transaction was the easy part

Since she had already passed the road test through her official state instructor at the high school, the visit to the DMV involved nothing more than a few signatures and the driver's license photo. Didn't even have to pay because we already paid when she received her permit.

The second part of the transaction is the hard part.

She's out now picking up one friend to do a photo shoot in town. No more reminders from Mom in the car and I can tell you this is the terrifying part of the transaction. The art of letting go.

so pretty Linda~ We got it too. It feels chilly & wet though. I love a crisp cool dry snow. Not this wet stuff :)
I understand about the letting go w/ Sarah. I remember some days that I just really missed the girls HAVING to have me in the car when they were learning. We have a 90 day wait period here in Indiana where the new drivers have to be Drivers for 90 days before allowed to drive anyone under 18. Which was a relief knowing they got a little independence experience before riding with friends.
Love to you ~

A big congratulations to Sarah for doing so well on her exams and for getting her license. I am so happy to hear that she went through all the steps in order to get it and that she did so well. So many people have zero interest in getting there license and it isn't something that I understand. I was there the day I turned 15 then again the days I turned 16. It wasnt't that I wanted to be away from my parents, it was just the fact that I could.

Your pictures are lovely, we are having lots of rain, but it's warm here so there will only be snow in the mountains.

Gorgeous images, Linda. I know my family in Michigan were a little surprised and blue about not having a white Christmas this year. But the snow will come at some point and it will stay for a while.

Kids here can't drive until they are 18 and there is no driver's education. At Yusef's age, I already had my license. I have to check into whether we could get him into some summer program if we come to the States next year. (I can still say next year because 2012 hasn't arrived yet :)

Have a great rest of the week. Tammy

Such lovely photos. That's our type of snow...here and gone in a day.

I pondered a lot about what it will be like when emily is ready to get her license. I don't know how I'll feel about it all since it's almost 10 years off, but next to moving out, I imagine that's the hardest milestone.
