Post #897. There's a method to my madness.

While many people are feeling entirely stressed-out right about now, I'm coming into my relaxed state of mind because I'm done.

Done shopping.
Done decorating.
Done wrapping.
Done preparing.

Excuse me for a moment while I step up on my soap box.

While some may roll their eyes at the fact that I start my main Birthday/Christmas season shopping at the end of August and actually pick up gifts throughout the year; this is me
I rarely procrastinate when it comes to something I want to do.

When it comes to Birthdays and holidays, I wouldn't be happy without being entirely organized.

A couple of weeks ago on Facebook there was a discussion about Christmas music; when people like to hear it for the first time in the stores. Since I rarely ever shop inside an actual store anymore, it was difficult for me to find fault with the fact that they start playing the music all too early.

Honestly, the entire post made me grouchy as does much of Facebook, but I've written that before, and yes I know Tammy and Jim this is why you don't do Facebook. ☺  Smart people.

I've honestly been wishing that something would happen to where Facebook would crumble and fall apart for good. Go back to the old days where if someone really wanted to be in touch, they would be - in real life.

Comments about when it's appropriate to first play Christmas music bug me because who cares?  I've heard my daughter playing Christmas music in the middle of the summer. It's music. There are no rules.

And there are no rules when it comes to Christmas.

For instance, I really do not like baking.

Never have.

I love to cook because it's not so precise, but have little patience for that other thing.

So, not much of that for Christmas goes on at our house. Oh, I'll make a few easy things, but only when I really feel like it and Sarah will do some on her own with me snapping photos and she snapping photos of her finished work, because we obviously both really, really, really love photography.

That's how we are.

We're not really the do-everything-together type of household, even at Christmas. Sarah decorated her own room. Sarah and Anthony hung the ornaments on our main tree. I decorated the remainder of the inside by myself. Jim and I worked on the outside decorations together, though I did a certain portion (the artsy stuff) on my own and he did large portions on his own.

Somehow, though separate, we're all working together. In our own way.

And that's our Christmas season and I like it that way!

I'll listen to Christmas music when I want, have all of my shopping done well before most people and happily never even set foot in a store, since I really hate mall shopping, will wrap all of my gifts before the 1st of December, and celebrate Christmas beyond Christmas Day. Yes, our decorations will remain up at least until January 2. It used to be even longer (until Three Kings). There's no rush to end Christmas on Christmas Day.

I like that we receive a Christmas card from my cousin in Poland every year during the first week of January because that is when they celebrate the 12-days of Christmas, which only begin on Christmas Day!

Also, while I'm up here - "I love New Year's Eve".

P
eople have a love/hate relationship with that holiday, but I love the romanticism of it all (always have!) and especially so since 10 years ago this coming New Year's Eve, Jim proposed to me right before the strike of midnight.

So, there's a method to my madness. It all makes sense to me. For this reason, I refuse to be influenced by what others think people should or shouldn't be doing.

When Jim and I are out and about this month I won't feel the same sense of urgency as others to get things done because my things are already done.

I can simply relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of the season.

Ok. Stepping down off the box now.

    Happy December 1st!

.... More of the decorations around our house. If you missed my previous post, featuring all of the photos of our decorations (inside and out) it's HERE.

Ha-Ha! I laughed out loud when I saw my name. Definitely not doing Facebook. When I was with my friends this past Saturday, we had the same exact conversation. They all do Facebook, what's ap (?), and they all had their iPhones on the table. My old Nokia was tucked away in my purse where it is most of the time. They were trying to tell me I need to get with the times. I told them just because some people think that is the way of the world doesn't mean I have to follow right along. I use technology as much as I need to. I also told them that if they want to be in touch with me, they can call, or sms or send me an email or come see me in person. But if you call while I am driving, I won't answer my phone. And if someone calls me while they are driving, I will tell them to call me later and hang up. Email hasn't been around so long that is should be a dying fad -- writing has been around forever and I don't want that to go away either. I much prefer the personal touch. Like leaving comments for blog friends. :) Your Christmas tree is beautiful! And I am am in awe of your ability to think ahead while everyone is out there running around like chickens with their heads cut off spending what they don't have to buy what they don't need. :/ Wishing you and yours a happy holiday season. The decorations look great. I agree with you about FB and the computer in general. I get up 15 minutes early to have some coffee, check e-mail and FB before I have to start my day. What would I have done 20 years ago? Sat with my family and asked them how their night was or if they had any dreams. Maybe open the paper. We may think we have it better these days, but maybe not...

Your decorations are beautiful and I am so glad you are done with all of your shopping. I like to have most of mine done by the 1st of December, but I do enjoy going out and doing some shopping in December. There were a few years that I had it all done by Thanksgiving and then I found that I missed going out in December. For me I am not rushing around and not in a huge hurry so it is really enjoyable for me.

I still have a bit to do, since we still have our visit with Santa and I have to wait on that. I also picked up a couple of cards off the tree at church so I will be buying for a few other children too. It is something that Jason and I do each year and while it is small, we hope that it helps that child.
